Codice diplomatico arbesano

A Diplomatic Code systematically collects documents (usually from the Middle Ages and the first Modern age) produced by or for political or religious authorities. Such documents belong to an area with a notarial tradition and with a political and religious homogeneity.
A Dalmatian historian and founder of the Società Dalmata di Storia Patria, Giuseppe Praga worked between 1920 and 1940 in the Zara Archive, as well as in the council and episcopal archives in the Quarner, formerly Venetian, island of Arbe / Rab. He would transcribe middle age and modern age diplomatic documents, therefore documenting the history of Arbe in various periods: pre-Venetian, first, intermediate, second and final Venetian period. He intended to publish a Codex diplomaticus arbensis: although he could not carry out his project, he succeeded in saving his transcriptions, which are now kept in Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice.
The project’s aim is to conclude the work of the founder of the Società Dalmata di Storia Patria and publish the Codex diplomaticus arbensis.
