Imago Dalmatiae

The research aims to reconstruct the image of Dalmatia as perceived by travelers over a long period of time, spanning from the Middle Ages to the end of World War II. It focuses on highlighting, through travel literature and guides, the perceptual changes in the image of Dalmatia, not only from a naturalistic-geographic perspective but also from political, cultural, and social viewpoints tied to shifts in sovereignty from the Republic of Venice to the Habsburg Monarchy and the Kingdom of Italy. The research also investigates, from a gender perspective, the diversity of descriptions made by male and female travelers who visited the region over time.
